Jennifer Edmonds

Hello!  First of all, congratulations on the upcoming birth of your baby…what an exciting time!!

My name is Jennifer Edmonds, and I’m a certified birth doula.  I have always been amazed at the miracle of pregnancy and birth, and after a challenging birth and postpartum experience with my first daughter I followed in the footsteps of a dear friend of mine and began to study birth and doula support services.  Between my two babies alone I had a wide range of experiences from a high risk pregnancy and induction, a low risk pregnancy and planned homebirth, and a non-emergent hospital transfer and unmedicated birth.

I began practicing as a birth doula in 2012 and have attended births at several hospitals and birth centers throughout Connecticut and Westchester County, NY with a variety of mothers and their different birthing experiences. Ina May Gaskin says, “Wherever and whenever you intend to give birth your experience will impact your emotions, your mind, your body, and your spirit for the rest of your life,” and that quote really sits at the core of what I believe and do as a doula. I aim to do all that I can to support you in making your birth experience a positive one that you will look back on with the fondest of memories. My goal is to help you know and understand what your options are so that you can then feel empowered to make the choices that you feel comfortable with. My role is then to fully support you in those choices while providing physical and emotional support to you and your partner as you journey to meet your sweet baby.

This also carries over into how I support families during the postpartum period.

I provide unbiased and nonjudgmental support via practical information & assistance, encouragement, companionship, and an extra set of hands to help with meals, cleaning, organizing, rest, and recovery.

I currently reside in the Westville section of New Haven with my husband, our 2 little ladies, and the furry baby of the family – our cat, Ella! In my spare time I enjoy long walks with friends, dates with my husband, traveling, playing music and singing, digging my toes in the sand, and (most realistically) watching anything that isn’t a cartoon!

Jen was amazing throughout my entire pregnancy. She was there whenever I had questions and never made me feel like a crazy first time mom. She was nothing but supportive of all of my choices, and provided my husband and I with information and advice when we asked. During my actual labor, she was more help than I could have ever imagined. It felt like I had known her for years. She was very in tune with what I needed, providing me with both physical and emotional support throughout the entire labor and delivery. Not only was she in tune with what I needed, but also with my husband's needs. She was able to show him some things to help me, and he never felt left out. When I started to feel some negativity creeping in, she was literally right there to whisper positive affirmations into my ear when I needed it most. I truly can't say enough about Jen. She is a fantastic doula, and we look forward to having her at our future births. Thank you again Jen for all that you did!
